A “Chapa 1 Rui Xavier — ABI Luta Pela Democracia”, encabeçada pelo presidente Octávio Costa e pela vice-presidente Regina Pimenta, foi eleita, nessa sexta-feira (25/04), para o mandato 2025/2028 da Associação Brasileira de Imprensa, com 92,2% dos votos. A Chapa 1 teve 282 votos, com 24 votos nulos e abstenções. A “Chapa 2 – Sem Anistia para Golpistas”, que era encabeçada pelo professor Ivan Cavalcanti Proença e Osvaldo Maneschy, se retirou do processo eleitoral, na Assembleia Geral Ordinária da quinta-feira (24/04), véspera da eleição, e fez campanha para que os associados não votassem. Votaram 306 associados (64%) dos 479 que estavam aptos a votar, sendo 56 presencialmente e 250 pelo sistema eletrônico.

Foram eleitos os membros da diretoria executiva, Conselhos Fiscal e Consultivo e 1/3 do Conselho Deliberativo. Com a eleição desta sexta-feira, o Conselho Deliberativo da ABI passa a contar com mais duas cearenses em sua composição: as jornalistas Márcia Catunda e Carmina Dias. Elas se somam a Salomão de Castro, que prossegue no colegiado por mais dois anos (exerce mandato pelo período 2024/2027). A chapa eleita conta com membros de nove estados e do Distrito Federal.

Foi uma vitória da ABI e de todos os jornalistas que defendem a democracia, a liberdade de imprensa e de expressão, o respeito aos direitos humanos e honram os históricos compromissos da centenária Casa do Jornalista.

Ao agradecer o resultado, o presidente da ABI, Octávio Costa, lamentou a retirada da Chapa 2 do processo eleitoral: “Isso foi lamentável. Um fato negativo na história da ABI”, desabafou. “A política de oposição, é claro que faz parte do jogo democrático. O que não faz parte do jogo democrático é uma campanha suja como a que levou a retirada de uma chapa do processo eleitoral, às vésperas da eleição. Mas esse grupo não terá mais espaço para fazer a política suja que vinha fazendo. Os associados perceberam que não poderiam se deixar levar por esse tipo de manobra”, acrescentou.

“A reeleição não é uma vitória de indivíduos, mas de um grupo político, o ABI Luta Pela Democracia, que atua na ABI desde 2019. Conto com o apoio de todos para esses três anos que temos pela frente, sempre na luta em defesa da democracia, da liberdade de imprensa e do estado democrático de direito. Democracia sempre!”, concluiu.
