Segundo o coordenador do Grupo de Ações Penitenciárias (GAP), Paulo Costa, o objetivo é expandir a atuação do GAP, estendendo suas atividades para além da segurança pública e trazendo benefícios diretos à sociedade por meio de ações sociais e terapêuticas. “A interação com os cães de trabalho, por exemplo, tem se mostrado eficaz tanto para a segurança quanto para a saúde mental e o bem-estar da população, contribuindo para a reabilitação de indivíduos em situação de vulnerabilidade. Essas ações são organizadas por uma comissão de policiais penais, que realizam de um a dois eventos por mês em diversos locais, como hospitais, escolas, asilos e projetos sociais. O foco dessas iniciativas é promover a interação da comunidade com os cães do GAP e com os policiais, desmistificando o trabalho desses profissionais e criando um vínculo mais humano com a população”, afirma.
Além dos benefícios terapêuticos, Costa ressalta que os eventos também têm um caráter educativo e social. “Essas ações permitem que as pessoas toquem nos animais, interajam com os policiais e participem de momentos descontraídos, como tirar fotos. Elas não apenas melhoram a imagem da Secretaria da Administração Penitenciária (SAP), mas também ajudam a aproximar a instituição da comunidade, criando uma percepção mais positiva e colaborativa entre os profissionais de segurança e a sociedade.”
